Wapahani High School History

In 1965, Selma High School (Liberty Township)and Center High School (Perry Township)consolidated to become Liberty-Perry School Corporation.

A spot along the White River was chosen and a derivative of the river's Native American name was given to the new high school, Wapahani High School.  The doors opened to students in the Fall of 1967.

Send your photos and memories of Wapahani High School to history@wapahanialumni.com, and we'll post 'em.

Variety Show 1977 Program

Lifetime Member #1, Robert L. Vandevender II, sent in this program from the WHS Variety Show 1977.  He writes:

Donna,

I found a document I thought you might like to post on the website.  This one has special meaning for me.  As you may or may not remember, Lynn Barnard and I used to do the morning announcements "Bob & Lynn with the morning announcements."  Additionally, I used to announce many of the basketball games and other activities associated with the band.  I had a voice that worked very well over the radio or PA system.

But when Mr. Craig took over the band, for some reason he didn't like me.  I tried out to be the announcer for this event and he decided not to let me do it.  I attended the show but was disappointed to not be able to participate.

Sincerely,

Scarred for life
Bob Vandevender

Wapahani High School Song

Words by Virginia Jay, Tune:  "On Northwestern"

Onward, you Raiders

Fight to victory!!

Raise the colors red and white

With pride and loyalty!

Rah! Rah! Rah!

Glory and honor bring Wapahani fame

Give them a fight, a Raider fight

And show them how we'll win the game.

Go you Raiders, fight!

Fight you Raiders, win!

(Repeat the song and end with fight!)

You can read the whole story of how this song was written, in Mama Jay's own words, in the Wapahani Alumni Association's cookbook, An Alumni Feast.

Preserving our History

Yearbooks, photos, and other memorabilia are being sought to aid in educational displays, or through this site, that will let our students and community learn about our "parent" schools, Selma and Center.  There's also much to learn about 41 years of Wapahani history.
