It's fun to read the guesses for our Mystery Photos contest and have people win memberships and T-shirts. When we do a new series of Mystery Photos, we put the old ones on our Photo Gallery.
Thanks to one very generous Anonymous W.A.A. Member, it was our pleasure to present a check for $1,000 to Mr. Richard Geisler, WHS/SMS Music Director.
See more about our Instruments From the Attic program on the Ongoing Projects page, or make a financial contribution on the FinancialContributorForm, both on this site.

| Thank you to the Alumni who signed in at the gate and visited our displays in the Alumni/VIP Room (old Choir Room), sampled Alyssa's Oatmeal-Apricot Cookies, purchased "An Alumni Feast" cookbook, and visited with us on February 6, 2009 |
We've said it before, and we'll say it again--thanks to all the "Angels" who purchased Mr. Alan Garinger's latest historical novel for youth/young adults Alone: The Journey of the Boy Sims. We were able to donate 180 copies--for each Selma Elementary School 4th and 5th grade student to take home, and for permanent collections in the 4th grade rooms and SES Library. Mr. Garinger is now touring Indiana historical museums to promote his book and also his most recent educational computer program Jeremiah Stokely Tours Indiana, which helps 4th-grade students learn about Indiana counties while complying with Indiana Academic Standards for fourth-graders. For a list of names placed in the contributed books, email history@wapahanialumni.com. | We received Certificates of Appreciation from Selma Elementary School and some very nice letters from Mrs. Donna Marlatt's students. Besides thanking us for the contributions, the students commented about the book: "If I were to give it a rating, it would be 10 out of 10".....Z. W. "It's a good book, I can't stop reading it"....K.K. "It is exciting and not boring...the title really hooks you".....H. S. "I am sure the students at Selma will enjoy reading it for many years to come".....C.P. Visit the Friends of Jeremiah Stokely website at http://www.jeremiahstokely.com/ for more information on Mr. Garinger's full line of books and educational computer software. |
Maplewood Golf Course was the location of our first annual Golf Scramble in October, 2008. Five teams of alumni and friends enjoyed the beautiful sunny day. The first-place winning team was captained by 1977 alumnus Rick Morris. Thank you to all who participated in the fun outing! We hope to have even more participation in Golf Scramble '09!
Seeing Mama Jay beat the drum during the Bluebird Days Parade was something else! Her lively spirit hadn't dimmed since retiring as Wapahani girl's Physical Education teacher. She said if she were never able to attend another reunion, she'd be happy, she'd had such a good time! |
| | The play on words was deliberate. We'd met so many terrific alumni at Alumni Fest '08, and the 200 recipes submitted by Selma, Center, and Wapahani alumni were a feast! While a lot of work, it was worth it to see the finished product. Alumni contributed not only their recipes, but also comments about the history of their recipes. We still have copies available, which make great gifts for teachers, friends, family, and for all occasions! Get your copies while supplies last! |
| The Alumni Band, directed by 1973 alumnus David Gilliam was terrific and the folks in charge of Bluebird Days halted the rides out of respect for their performance, as well as for 1973 alumnus songbird Dana (Howard) Russo. It was standing room only under the Selma Lion's Club Pavilion as she gave her vocal rendition of "Over the Rainbow". |
The sound coming out of the WHS Auditorium in mid-December was the sound of a band and choir under the direction of a talented and competent Director--Mr. Richard Geisler. We're very happy to see the Music Department improving and becoming a thing of Raider Pride!! At the Christmas Program on December 12, 2008, the Wapahani Alumni Association presented Mr. Geisler with 6 instruments: 2 clarinets, 1 bass clarinet, 1 trombone, and 2 trumpets, thanks mostly to a Super Alumnus, Sylvia Barbier, WHS class of 1973. | ![]() |
