Jerry Needler SHS '54

Jerry Needler passed away this morning at three am. 
Jerry had been battling lung cancer and it seemed to be going well .  But he contracted pneumonia.He was my life long friend and will be missed........

Alyssa M. Couch WHS 2006

 Alyssa Anne Couch, 4/24/1985-11/15/2006.  Alyssa graduated in 2004 from Wapahani. At the time of her passing, she was a junior at Ball State University, studying Biology, Chemistry, and Spanish.  She planned to attend Purdue in the Fall of 2007, to study Pharmacology.  Her travels included Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, Thailand, and Washington, D.C., to do volunteer and mission work.  The daughter of alumnus William "Bill" Couch, and Angela (Barton) Couch.  Granddaughter of former WHS principal Mr. William Couch.  Her brother, Bruce, is a 2000 graduate of Wapahani. 

John C. Barbier WHS '70

John Cecil Barbier, 4/30/1952-3/7/2001.  John graduated with the Wapahani High School class of 1970.  John was a drum major, talented musician, and was very involved in school life.  He married his wife Sherry and had three chldren:  John James, Tiana Faye, Bryce Davis.  John lived with his family in Lahaina, Maui, where he was an entertainer and ran a bed and breakfast. 

Joan (Thomas) Staggs SHS '45

Ellen Joan (Thomas) Staggs, 4/4/1927-2/16/1971, graduated with the Selma High School class of 1945.  Joan was a cheerleader at SHS and married Robert F. Staggs.  Her children are Thomas (wife Donna WHS '71), and Clint (wife Beth), 4 grandchildren:  David (WHS '03), Amy (WHS '06); Lauren, Dena. 

Lois (Shroyer) Miller SHS '49

Lois Marilyn (Shroyer) Miller2/28/1931-11/23/2006, graduated with Selma High School class of 1949.  Lois married Robert Miller and had four children:  Julayne, Jody, Jama, and Jeff.  Four grandchildren.  Lois was especially close with her Selma Bluebird classmates and enjoyed staying in contact with them through email, phone, and reunions.

Merlyn Thomas SHS '42

Merlyn Wayne Thomas, 4/14/1922-4/12/1989, graduated with the Selma High School class of 1942.  He was married to Betty R. Langdon for 45 years.  They had three children: Judy, Steve and Bart, and several grandchildren.  Merlyn served in the U. S. rmy Air Forde from 1942 to 1945 and flew 50 missions over Italy. Merlyn was employed as an Auctioneer and with Warner Gear and Westinghouse.  He was a member of the Selma Lions Club.  His interests included bowling, golf, travel, and fishing.

Jack W. Howard WHS '68

.Jack William Howard 3/30/1950-5/11/1983.  Jack graduated with the Wapahani High School class of 1968 and was known for his perseverance and desire tomake a difference.  He attended Ball State University, was Assistant Manager at Ponderosa for 3 years, and served as pastor for Methodist and Friends churches in Illilnois and Indiana for 6 years.  Jack was ordained posthumously in the Friends church.  He survived 4 heart surgeries, but died of cancer at age 33.  He would be proud of his wife, three grown children, and seven grandchildren who presently reside in Illinois
